Markus'
Wharfside
At this nine-table Sooke gem, chef Markus Wieland pushes deceptively
simple flavours from a backdrop of local produce, organic meats
and seafood. There are nods to Italy with a daily risotto; Germany,
with a family recipe of semmelknoedel mingled with earthy morels;
and Mexico, with a refreshing tomato-cucumber-mint salsa nestled
below seared scallops. Many mains are wisely offered in appetizer
size to invite more sampling from the menu. Weiland's wife, Tatum
Claypool-Wieland, works the room with gentle efficiency. Short but
high-powered wine list offers choice picks from around the world.
